About This Class
In this professional tutorial I demonstrate a quick charcoal portrait in 4 time saving steps.
Inside you’ll discover:
- the techniques professional portrait artists use to get great results
- use Reilly rhythms to do an accurate quick block-in
- apply a simple value structure
- make an edge pass that pushes the illusion of volume
- add simple details in key areas to make your portrait come alive
This 3-Day Online Portrait Drawing in Charcoal and White Chalk, workshop will focus on Drawing with charcoal and white chalk on toned paper, applied to the subject matter of the human head. Students will learn subtractive methods of charcoal drawing: the illusion of volume and form will be initiated on the page through the reduction of a charcoal wash. Learning will also include how to model form with Charcoal and white chalk, as well as allowing the toned paper to create volume and form.
This workshop is a highly recommended to take subsequent to Buchanan’s July workshop, Indirect Portrait Painting: Imprimatura and Velatura.
So after about three and a half hours this is what I came up with. I had a lot of fun and made a few more friends in the process. I would have loved to have more time with this but happy I was able to do this much. Hopefully Tristen will pose for some more paintings in the future.
